Lung disease is the number three killer in America, and is responsible for one in seven deaths. Among children less than one year old, lung disease and other breathing problems are the number one killer. Today, more than 35 million Americans are living with chronic lung disease such as asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
The Department of Pulmonology at Palmdale Regional Medical Center diagnoses and treats lung cancer, tuberculosis, emphysema and A1AD-related emphysema, pneumonia, sarcoidosis, HIV/AIDS and lung disease and influenza.
The Cardiopulmonary Department at Palmdale Regional Medical Center offers a variety of services to meet the needs of the community for inpatient and outpatient services, including:
- Hand-held nebulizer (HHN) therapy and education
- Metered dose inhaler (MDI) therapy and education
- Respiratory medication education
- Respiratory disease process education (asthma, COPD, etc.)
- IPPB therapy and education
- Breathing retraining exercises (incentive spirometry)
- Secretion removal technique
- Ventilator management
- Oxygen education and safety
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and analysis
- Postoperative care
- Pulmonary function testing
- Bronchoscopy assisting
- Electroencephalography tests (EEG)
